Jon Kaeuper – President

Jon Kaeuper graduated from Indiana University with concentrations in Zoology and Business Management.  His postgraduate work was completed at University of Tampa.  Following a number of pharmaceutical sales, sales management, and marketing positions at Warner-Lambert, Jon became VP of marketing for Beecham Labs, and subsequently VP of marketing for antiinfectives and cardiovasculars at SmithKline Beecham.  Two other executive marketing appointments took him to Fujisawa, USA, and Wesley-Jessen, the former optical division of Schering-Plough.  With a wide range of product launches, US and global market development, and a multitude of therapeutic area experiences, Jon joined the medical education field in 1995 and subsequently became a partner with Physicians World Communications Group in Secaucus, NJ.  He was instrumental in developing many medical education initiatives, some extending beyond 8 to 10 years.  These major initiatives have included key educational offerings in diabetes, hyperlipidemia, infectious diseases, multiple sclerosis, sepsis, neurotoxin therapies, multiple CNS diseases and disorders- in the US with many extending to the global arena.  In addition, Mr. Kaeuper has developed a variety of integrated educational programs directed to physician learning, with the ultimate goal of practice enhancements leading to improved patient care.  Jon founded Fortis Spectrum in 2005.

Amy Novak – Director of Operations

Amy Novak graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism and a certificate in business and economics.  After completing her studies, she taught in Dallas area public schools, focusing on special education in high school.  Following a relocation, Amy focused on continuing medical education, especially in the area of planning and organizing events.  For 12 years, her experience has taken her throughout the US in a variety of assignments, both integrated congress symposia as well as free-standing educational programs.  In addition, Amy has significant experience with global projects, and has organized and implemented many integrated programs throughout Europe. With the formation of Fortis Spectrum, Amy has been managing operations as well as liaison with major physician groups and key opinion leaders.  In addition, she is responsible for overall management of our in-practice coordinators/managers for performance improvement initiatives.

Kevin Kaeuper – Creative Director, Meeting Manager

Kevin has been with Fortis Spectrum since opening in 2005, and is responsible for all design and creative elements for educational programs.  He majored in Graphic Design with a minor in Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  Kevin’s creative work has included patient-focused projects including patient management plans and toolkits, disease-representation artwork and treatment management plans,  as well as special needs patient groups.  In addition, he has developed learning module graphics and presentations for educational programs.  Kevin is also responsible for graphics integration of all performance improvement education modules.

Graeme Smith – UK Director

Graeme Smith graduated with a BPharm (Hons) in 1986 and is a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. He worked as a clinical pharmacist in major London teaching hospitals before gaining a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Nottingham in 1992. He subsequently spent seven years working in Pharmaceutical marketing, developing national and international strategies for products in a number of therapy areas and had postings in Mexico, Germany and the UK. He also gained experience in consumer marketing with Colgate Palmolive. In 1999 he joined an international health care consultancy where he developed his skills in strategic consultancy and health care communications. Since then he has gained significant international consulting and medical education experience.

Janet Dyer – Writer

Janet has been a writer and editor for more than 30 years. Although she has worked in fields ranging from public relations to general interest airlines magazines, s/She began specializing in clinical issues after working as managing editor for American Journal of Nursing. Since then, she has written for a number of clinical journals, including Medical Economics, Emergency Medicine, Female Patient, P&T, and Federal Practitioner. She has also worked in pharmaceutical advertising, focusing on direct-to-patient marketing.

Colleen Cancio – Program Director

As Program Director, Colleen is in charge of designing and producing the Fortis Spectrum’s online and live educational activities.  She works very closely with key opinion leaders in a variety of medical fields to identify gaps in clinician knowledge and performance and to develop learning modules and resources to helpclose those gaps.  Prior to joining Fortis Spectrum, Colleen worked for many years as a freelance writer and held research and editorial positions at several Washington, DC-based nonprofit organizations.  Colleenholds a Bachelor of Science degree in integrative biology from the University of California at Berkeley.

Harry A. Gallis, MD – Consultant, CME and Quality

Harry A. Gallis is a native of Athens, Georgia, and a graduate of Princeton University and Duke University School of Medicine, with clinical training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.  During 21 years on the faculty at Duke University he was involved in clinical practice and clinical research in infectious diseases, gradually focusing more on continuing education for health care professionals.  At Duke he served as CME Director for 3 years, directed CME in Internal Medicine for 13 years and lead Duke’s AHEC activities. At Carolinas HealthCare System, he was Director of Charlotte AHEC from 1995-2007.  He is currently consultant on CME and quality to the director of the Charlotte AHEC at Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte, NC.  He now holds a faculty position as Consulting Professor of Medicine, Duke University School of Medicine.

He was on the Board of the Alliance for eight years, serving as President 2005-2006, is a Fellow of the ACP, the Alliance for CME and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, chairs the Education Committee the NC Medical Society, being heavily involved with state accredited providers, and has just completed a term as chair of the education committee, of IDSA, now chairing its subcommittee on CME accreditation.

Maribeth Maher – Writer / Editor

Maribeth is a journalist and editor whose work appears in numerous clinical and consumer publications. In addition to developing clinical review articles, medical education programs, and patient education materials, she frequently writes news and feature articles on a wide variety of medical, nursing, pharmaceutical, and health topics. Maribeth spent more than seven years at the helm of Federal Practitioner, a monthly, peer-reviewed journal for clinicians working within the VA, DoD, and PHS. Before joining Federal Practitioner, she worked for several years as senior editor at the American Journal of Nursing. Maribeth received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, where she graduated with honors in an independent concentration that combined philosophy and psychology.
